I keep finding black beetles in out house, up to two or three a day and I'm worried that it may be an infestation as they are not always found in the same place (we've even had them upstairs). What can I do about it?
I get a few in my house every summer, I just put them outside (using the old glass & card trick as I'm a wimp!) I've seen them fall down the chimney a couple of times, so I think it's probably just birds dropping them down there. However if you don't have a chimney, maybe they're just coming in through windows or doors. I wouldn't worry too much unless it gets REALLY excessive. I think it's just that time of year.
I've noticed a few this year too, and they're really hard to catch because they run really fast! I just assume it's something to do with the hot weather
If they are slow moving with a domed back and make a satisfying crunch when you stand on them, they are probably vine weevils. These are pestsof pot plants. the grubs devour plant roots and weaken or even kill the pot plant. The grubs are hatching out into adults just now and will be looking for mates before laying more eggs in yout houseplants.
If they are fast moving then they are some sort of ground beetle or rove beetle. These are carnivores and will help to keep other pests at bay,
