Useless solicitor - shall I report him?
3 Answers
I'm in the process of buying my first home and have had to change solicitor as I found him to be entirely unsatisfactory. I'm very annoyed that he messed us about and have been advised to report him to the Law Society so they can investigate him. I can't decide if I should bother? Is it worth the hassle? They say they hope to sort out 75% of complaints within 6 months - seems like a long time to have it have it hanging over my head (and will cuase more stress, along with moving!) but I'm so angry and don't want him to get away with it....or have anyone else suffer at his hands.

It shouldn't be much hassle for you anyway - you just write a letter, explaining why you are complaining, and they will do the rest. Keep copies of everything, and make notes of why you were unhappy with the solicitor, and The Law Society will do the rest. They might need to contact you but it's off your chest until they do.
Yes, report him, especially if you have paid him any money.
Solicitors are supposed to be professional individuals who give a good standard of work and advice and if he's messed you about., perhaps he has also given lousy service to others.
We British are supposed to be an uncomplaining lot, which is why we often probably get the poor service we receive. He probably needs a shot up the backside which a complaint to the Law Society might provide.
