How much for a roofing survey?

I've just had a homebuyers report done on a place I'm thinking of buying and the surveyor raised concerns about the structural strength of the roof. The original slate tiles had been replaced with newer, heavier ones in the last ten years and a couple of the timbers in the loft look like they are warping (although it could be due to age).

Does any one know roughly how much it'll cost for a specialist roof survey and, if the roof does need strengthening, what is involved in it?

I would expect to pay around 150 pounds for a structural engineer to do a simple report. The extent of the work could be anything from adding additional struts to stop the purlins sagging to completely re roofing and replacement of the purlins if they have sagged too much.

Just for the benefit of anyone else who is looking for an answer to this.

I had three quotes of between 30 and 45.

Nothing needed doing to the roof - the surveyor said that he makes about 300 per week looking at rooves that have been brought up as concerns on homebuyers reports. He's never seen a correctly diagnosed roof problem yet!
