price of an acre or so?

i live next to a field in lincolnshire and would like to ask for about an acre to add to my property for growing things and space for my chickens. not for building on - heaven forbid- i hasten to add, just to extend my growing area which is really quite small and for the kids to have more room to play.
he said make me an offer, but i have no idea what is a real and sensible offer as i dont want to offend him with a silly one.

It varies rather a lot, but agricultural land might be expected to be �3k per acre whilst grazing land sells at around �10k per acre.
