How feasible is it to move one? ...it's about 18ft high & 8ft wide ...

Is it a 'crane job' because I'm thinking the rootball will be big?

Yes, you will need a crane; lorry mounted hydraulic arm (hiab type) would be sufficient. You will need to support rootball sufficiently to prevent it collapsing. Have a look at this website

they developed the various frames for securing the rootball and your size would be one of the smaller sizes they move. Doing it yourself is questionable but not impossible. You could make up a wire mesh frame secured with wire or rope. Type of soil will play a big part as sandy/gravelly soils are not cohesive and will tend to collapse wheras clay soils will hold together well.

The root spread is usually about the size as the crown, in your case 8ft, be very careful not to damage the larger roots.
Water it thoroughly for a week or so before lifting it, this will give the tree plenty of sustenance for a few days and will help to soften the soil, in readiness for digging.
