We recently moved into our new house and and the Valuation Report stated that there had been previous evidence of movement (subsidence) although nothing to suggest this would continue. We have spoken to our insurers today who have told us that they cannot insure us any longer as the subsidence is historic. Does anyone know of any insurance company who would insure us in view of the fact that we have 'historic' subsidence? Thanks.

I cant see any Insurance company touching you with anything shorter than a barge pole.

Why would anyone get on board a sinking ship?

Thanks for your vote of confidence Woodchopper, however my husband found an insurance co today who would insure us and at a cost cheaper than our current insurer.
I would advise reading the small print very carefully.
Wish you all the best.

We certainly will - cheers.
I purchased my house in 1999. It had been owned by the coal authority and had been empty for 5 years prior. We purchased it and found that it had extensive work done because of subsidence. It has been underpinned but as the local pit has been closed for about 5 years now it is unlikely that we will have any more problems. We got insurance through Select & Protect but are unhappy with their normal contents policy, who did you end up getting the insurance with?

Hi Roxington, it turned out that we didn't have any subsidence, it was a structrual problem with the lintel in the porch which we had fixed. We didn't use the other insurer in the end and unfortunately my husband cannot remember the name - sorry. Good luck.
There is a difference between subsidence and landslip. I would have the problem investigated further. Insurance companies are notorious for interpreting policy wording differently when a claim arises
