Yes, the garden is generally in a fairly blousey state this time of year and the July heatwave didn't help, did it? I always leave my bedding plants in until the frost finishes them off. The garden is bereft of colour for so long during the winter months I try to hang on to it as long as possible. But with the nights already drawing in so quickly and the cooler mornings with dew on the grass, you can't help feeling that summer is virtually over. Still, maybe we'll have an Indian summer in September and October!
Don't despair crete - so many of us have been saying the same. Thankfully I didn't buy a lot this yr due to the miserable spring & having no incentive to get going, but I did spend a fair amount on planting up my two-tier basket which now looks more like a two tier compost heap. In past years it's still been going at the end of sept......I'd go & empty it today if it wasn't so cold wet & windy!

I pulled all the lobelia out of my baskets yesterday as it looked like a load of old straw in spite of daily watering and feeding ..Even the fuchsia leaves are starting to turn yellow . I think it's a combination of "the wrong weather" .To much rain in May too much heat in July and now April weather in August. The only thing I still have going strong are a couple of baskets of petunias which I am nursing !Even stuff in the borders is past it's best and hardy fuchsias usually go on until at least the end of October round here..
I've only got busy lizzies in my hanging basket and they are still looking good, although I have planted up a new basket of pansies to swap over as soon as the busy lizzies have finished.
