when is the best time to start growing leeks for exhibition?

I grow mine at the same time as ordinary Leeks, I assume your talking Giants.

Carrots, Once I separate the seedlings, I grow them in large pots, about a foot off the ground, avoid carrot fly that way, and I use Murphy's compost.
