I have just laid a new turf and believe they will shrink a little. How do I fill the 'gaps'. Is it sand or soil or something else? Thanks

If you've "pack" the turf a bit it probably won't shrink much - especially at this time of year. I'd fill it with a mix of very finely seived top soil and fine sand. And a sprin kling of seed - but, again, it's getting a bit late.
As HARRY says try and pack it tightly but the best thing is to never let it get dry, if no rain soak it every day.
