Hi Wendy,
I do know that fridges, freezers and fridgefreezers are made to a certain specification so as to function correctly in a warm environment (kitchen)...because now many are housed in a fitted kitchen (no longer needing the same amount of air space at the rear of the unit - as they used to be, when free standing), they are designed to work even within a confined space. Placing one in a garage (cold area) could (and can) be detrimental to it working sufficiently.
When we purchased a large upright freezer several years ago, and stated that it was to be housed in the garage, the supplier told us that it would render the guarantee void (for above reasons)...We did not have space in our kitchen - so took the risk of it being placed in the garage...moving a couple of years later we had it put in the kitchen - but soon it malfunctioned and we had to buy another one! (that isn't to say that it wouldn't have given up the ghost anyway)...
Hope this helps...
