Stain

I had a party on Sat night and last night found 2 golf ball red wine stains on my cream carpet and light blue sofa. I know to put warm salted water or white wine but the problem is that they've dried by now . My flat is rented and it looks scruffy... any reliable ideas that won't bleach the carpet or sofa?
