paint chipping on skirting and doors

hi there,
my husband advised me to sand down the old pain before applying undercoat x 2, then sating paint x 2, however i didnt as i read a good undercoat is all thats needed, so now the paint chipps off really easily, is there anything i can do to stop it now, varnish or anything?

I don't think so, because the new good paint is sticking really well to the useless old surface that you unfortunately decided to leave in place and is now coming off. You'll have to scape it off and start again. Sorry, its the only way.

The important bit of your husband's advice was the sanding bit. Undercoat isn't necessary if you're overpainting. Sanding provides a "key" (a rough surface) for the new paint to grip on to.
