Drains/Jeyes fluid

Has anyone bought Jeyes fluid recently & do you think it smells different & is less effective?
We had blocked drains a couple of weeks ago (was the neighbour's) & since having it cleared I've put down plenty of jeyes & lifted the manhole & swilled some around there too but the fusty smell remains yuk!
Any suggestions please?

Try Gin, it won't help the blockage but after a few swigs you won't care xx

Hi Robina,

Once a drain has been unblocked there should be no smell. Sometimes when a drain has blocked, some of the waste material and liquids are left "high and dry" and cause a dreadful smell. Have you tried soaking the surrounding area with Jeyes?

Going back to your original question, my feelings are that the Jeyes fluid of today is nowhere near as powerful as that of yesterdays. I have used it for years in my greenhouse and have noticed that it is a lot weaker than it used to be.

Thank you CSG - yes I've put Jeyes in & around as far as was possible but not only did the smell of it not last but it was definitely different.....more like the old Lifebuoy soap from my childhood!
I'll give it another go tomorrow - neighbour says she will too.

I use the Jeyes powder which I sprinkle in the wheelies and also down the drain at the side which is always getting blocked with something or other and then I blast it with the hose . Failing that whisky is good it cuts through all that grease from chs on tst ...runs for it >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>!!

EU regulations banning harmful substances means that Jeyes Fluid is now totally different. It used to carry instructions for sterilising soil on the labelling, but you won't find any on the present product.
