We are househunting around Exeter. Seen a reasonably sized and priced house in Copplestone. There seems to be a lot for our money compared to elsewhere. Yet word of mouth says it is full of chavs and kids hanging around at night. Perhaps this is why it is cheap in comparison? Could anyone recomend any good websites for househunting where it can give a indication of the life in a particular area? Plus anything else, floodplains etc.

nethouseprices.net to see the history of property sold in an area.

Do a google search for the dtreet name, it will bring back any paper stories and give you an idea of the area and the sort of people that live there.

Go and see it at night.

Good luck!
This is also a good site http://www.upmystreet.com/
I agree that upmystreet gives you a good snapshot of all sorts of statistics, including schools. Good schools usually indicate a nice area. However nothing beats just going there at different times of day and seeing what it's like, and asking the neighbours. It's surprising how open people can be, even when they live in a dump. Look at the local facilities, and use your common sense: do people look after their front gardens? Do you like the architecture and the way the streets are laid out? Can you walk around at night and not feel bombarded with traffic or threatened by kids hanging around?
