how do i remove cooking oil from porous tiles?

just moved into a brand new rented house with a beautiful tiled kitchen, however, it seems that the planners just did not think! the tiles are small cotswold tiles on the kitchen walls so when i cook the oil etc splashes onto them. ideally the area behind the hob needs a splashback or something. but before mentioning this to the landlord, help! i need to find something that will get cooking oil out of porous tiles first!! have used spray bleach a few times and almost done the trick but scared to use it too many times in case it discolours tiles!? also im too scared to cook anything on top of hob now! any ideas welcome!!

This wont answer your question directly but do tell the landlord straight away. It isnt your fault if the tiles are absorbent. As a landlord myself I'd appreciate the tenant telling me about this early on as, really, its a fault with the property.

Clean up as best you can but do tell the landlord and get them to do something about it. So long as you flag it up early on as a problem it shouldnt be charged to you as damage when you leave.
