Has anyone out there had a problem with this vacuum cleaner? The handle snapped off a few years ago and then a couple of days ago the same thing happened again. Just wondering if it's the way we operate it or is it a design fault.

I can tell you that my friend, who is very large, extremely hairy and very scary bought two Dyson cleaners two years ago, one for his wife and one for his daughter, both broke down within days of each other. So he took them straight back to the factory (after failed attempts to call them), walked in and marched into a meeting room and placed them on the table and asked for his money back forthwith! He told me he got a full refund and an apology. Never bought one myself.

How interesting. We actually haven't had a problem with its function, just the structure. We have telephoned them this morning and have told us it's an unusual occurrence. Why then twice in the same household?! Anyway they have agreed to replace it under guarantee so let's see how long the next one lasts!
Apparently dysons have the highest breakdown rate of all electrical appliances. My parents have had a few problems with theirs but got them all replaced no problem.

Go back to your retailer and try from there
When you say the handle do you mean that D shaped thing at the top of the handle? I ask because we have a DC04 and came home from holiday to find that ours had been broken off, probably by one of the kids having a frantic last minute attempt at tidying up!

I must admit, I'd always felt that that was a bit flimsy. And the temptation to use that bit to carry the thing up and down stairs was too great, when really the other handle lower down should be used to lift it. It seems you either love Dysons or hate them. I'm definitely in the hate camp, I think they're rubbish and wouldn't have another given!
If you search the site you will find a lot of questions that have been put about Dysons. As far as I can see most of us who have had them would not have one again, with a few exceptions. Personally I have returned to Miele and never regretted it for a moment.

Thanks to all for their input. Gazzawazza (love the name!) we don't actually lift it very much at all as I'm lucky enough (maybe not though) to have one upstairs and one down. I couldn't lift it by the handle anyway very easily. It did break just below the D structure, I think it just cannot take a lot of lateral stress when it's being pushed.

Lady_p_gold thank you for linking me to the other thread from last year. I shall definitely be looking at Miele when I next go shopping. I have one of their dishwashers which is brilliant.
