Are there any common or garden plants that may be harmful to children if eaten? I believe that the poinsettia thing is a myth, but are there any really toxic ones out there?

As far as I am aware approximately 60 to 70% of garden & house plants grown in th UK are poisonous/toxic to a greater or lesser degree! The only rule of thumb therefore is if you're not sure - don't eat it & make sure your kids NEVER eat stuff without parental supervision. Although that didn't stop my brother eating 'Snake-Food' (Red Berries on green stem - often found in hedgerows) when he was 3 and having to get his stomach pumped.
