Depends - are we talking village hall or the hallway of a house? What type of effect do you want to achieve - light & airy or cosy & intimate? What archetectural features are there that you want to hide or accentuate? What colours do you like or dislike?
i would paint it cream.
Tartan.
What size and shape hall? What period? How many windows, facing which direction?
Mangelwurzel brown, cos that's Jacob's favourite colour.
If it was Stuart Hall, mottled pink.
I would go for a pale colour, cream, pale blue or green for a small space, duck egg blue or grey green (sage) for a larger one btw welcome back Jacob. One colour darker below and lighter above can look smart in somewhere spacious. We tried white but it never looked homely.
Most Town Halls are hedgehog brown.
I have studied the answers and maybe a compromise is needed here.Could I suggest painting Stewart Hall in a hedgehog tartan?
Multicolour.
Try RED and GREEN and BLUE and ORANGE for a striking effect.
Or play around with the colours for more visual impact.
RED and GREEN and BLUE and ORANGE.

Its not the big cream carpet on the stais and dark wood on the main hall floor??
abigail9, when I was doing colour theory at college as part of my course, our tutor listed lots of colours with the spelling and colour name not matching like that. We had to get up in front of the class and say what the colour of the type was, not what it spelt as quickly as you could. It was great fun because our colour theory lesson was just after lunch on a Friday....when we had all just got back from the pub! It is weird how the eye can mislead the brain like that.
Paint a bright colour (but not garish bright) like lemon or lilac etc...
Moss green and cream are fresh colours for a hall (or anywhere else for that matter) especially if you have lots of plants.
