Dishwasher & washing up liquid

I left my teenage daughter to do the washing up while i went out for the evening. Instead of washing the few measly dishes she decided to put them in the dishwasher ( i hate using it, such a waste of time, end up having to wash 70 % of it again!). She put TWO tablets in (the ones with the liquid in) and then for good measure , and to make sure it was clean, she squirted in some Fairy. Needless to say suds everywhere. Two days later, still got the suds. How can i clean it out? I have tried running it on a normal wash but three hours later all i got was a machine full of suds! The machine does not finish its cycle, is it due to meet the big electrical warehouse in the sky?

What would get rid of suds? Grease/oil? Thinking out loud...

I've noticed from taking a bath in bubblebath that a ordinary bar of soap gets rid of suds - maybe it's the fat in soap that does it. Does anyone know for definite?

I will rub oil oil around the machine and leave a bowl of it in there for good measure and put on normal wash. Cant do any more damage can it? Thanks makemesmile. Happy Christmas to you.

Talcum powder will get rid of suds but I dont know if that would work in a dishwasher . I would ding the dishwasher if it's no good !! Why is 70% of it not clean ? Mine is brilliant and I could not live without it .
The only other thing that may cut through the suds is white vinegar ...a cupful in the machine and then the coolest run ..not hot ..this will make more suds .

Thanks Shaney, Don't know why machine does not wash properly but it doesn't unless i rinse everything before hand. If i do that then i might as well wash them. Have tried all known brands of dishwashing liquids and powder. Putting pans in there is a big no no. Every cup and glass has "residue" left inside. Yuk. Have cleaned out all filters, put dishwasher cleaner in, absolute rubbish. What make is yours, I think mine is an ariston. It doesn't have a cool wash cycle,it has a quick wash, normal or intensive!

try salt; i use this after cleaning the kitchen and ending up with a big mound of bubbles in the sink; sprinkle salt on and the bubbles vanish!

I have a Bosch Classixx Electronic ..best of German engineering !! Brilliant dishwasher ....had it five years and no problems ..touch wood !! Everything comes out sparkling .
Has settings for heavy crud ,medium crud and delicate stuff like good china and glassware.

Thanks everyone, salt and olive oil now in the dishwasher. Have to say the salt dispersed bubbles in a flash. Fingers crossed that this has worked. I'll keep you posted. Merry christmas.

When the suds have gone, try cleaning your spray arms, the rinsing water comes out of these and if there's some food stuck in them then it basically sprays gungy water on the pots. Also check that your top basket isn't set too low, so that the spray arm underneath this is hitting large cutlery in the bottom basket, this will stop it rinsing, it should get them spotless and dry, I couldn't last too long without mine before getting overwhelmed by household tasks.

Curiosty, I cleaned out the dishwasher everytime i used it and i long since stopped putting in pots, pans, cutlery and large plates. The only things i used to put in there were small dinner plates, side plates, dishes, cups and glasses and the occasional large carving knife (metal handled not wooden.) I always made sure that the spray arms were able to move. I must have the naffist dishwasher. My friend has an indesit, she has the same problem but not on the same scale as i do. She just puts the uncleaned crocks back in for a second wash. I cant be bothered to do that.

Well I would change to a different dishwasher I put everything in mine and it always comes out spotless, are you using the correct cycle ... not the quick one ????

It's just a thought but on the subject of the washer not getting your pots and pans etc clean do you have a cold water rinse setting on the washer? and are you using it? If you put durty stuff in the dishwasher and then leave it all day to dry on it will be very difficult to shift however if after you put the things in you run a quick cold water rinse to get the worst of it off there and then when you come to do the wash itself you may get better results.

A good dish washer is worth its weight in gold, we always use one and everything comes out shining!!

Couldn't be without one now!!!

MJ, the only settings it has are quick, normal and intensive, non of the cycles are much good!

Ratter, perhaps its just the wrong choice of dishwasher. I ought to spend a bit more money next time : (

1) do you put water softening salt in it? even if you think it's not needed give it a try.
2) use a tablet/liquid tab or what ever with a rinse aid in it. also put rinse aid in the machines dispenser and turn it's setting down to the lowest setting it'll go (without turning it fully off )
3) don't put the 'tab' in the holder in the door, just bung it in the machine.
4) i don't know if they work but you could try a 'dishwasher cleaner' that you put in the cuttlery holder, run the machine on a hot cycle whilst empty and it's suposed to clean and descale your machine.

hopefully doing all these will help you out and this brilliant invention will work ok for you.

Thanks Markja, i have always followed the manufacturers recommendations. I have always kept the salt and rinse aid topped up. I do not use it very often, but i do run it now and again to keep it in working order without anything in it. I cannot control the temperature at all. It has three buttons, quick wash. normal wash and intensive wash. I always used intensive, the other two buttons were practically useless from day one. I used to think that it was the tablets i was using (tried them all) that wasn't getting the dishes clean, i am now coming round to the idea that the machine is rubbish. Thank you for your input and merry christmas. (Mind you a good machine would be lovely on christmas day, having the family round, gonna be a lot of washing up and muggins here will end up doing it all as usual : (

Just try scooping it out into a bowl, and when most has gone put it on rinse & dry. The heat will break up the bubbles and wash it away. I had the bright idea once to clean the machine thoroughly with washing up liquid and a squirt of bleach (huge mistake) was scooping out bubbles for hours after
