Shower curtain

I have got a new shower curtain for xmas. It is the type that has "hoops". Thing is, my old one is thetype that has little bits that slide into the top part. Are they compatible or do I have to take this hoop type back to the shop?

If they're not compatible may I suggest changing the curtain pole - a few pounds would buy you a chrome pole.
Any I've bought are the hoop type.
