Pruning/Renovating Viburnum Tinus

I have a 12-year old hedge of Viburnum which has got rather motheaten, and it no longer flowers.
I want to renovate it; the books say to wait until late spring, after the flowering season. As it no longer flowers, is there anything to be gained by waiting or could I cut it back now? Would there be any disadvantage in this?

I can see you're point, I have a couple of shrubs in my garden of v tinus and I've pruned it back at various times of the year to tidy it up over the years and it always sprouts back without any problems, as long as it's not frosty of course!
However I think you will get better results, if you can hold out til april, even if flowers are not an important requirement. Good Luck Tbird+
