Draughty Double Glazing

I bought my house in the summer and with this being the first winter in it i would have expected the double glazing to come into its own, however i am finding my bedroom absolutely freezing and there is a definite draught coming through the windows (even saw the curtains twitching in the wind). I have spoken to some local window fitters who won't come out and see it "just because of a draught." Any ideas what I can do to prevent this?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Hi Beastly, Have they put a piece of plastic trim on the walls on the window reveals ? if they have there is probably a bl00dy great hole behind it,that should have been filled in, a lot of companies do this as it is quicker than filling the hole in. all you can do is take the strips off fill the gap with expanding foam (be careful not to overfill) trim it off and re-stick the plastic strips or have it replastered,good luck, Ray

I could feel a draught coming from our newly installed double glazed windows and was sure that I could see the curtain moving.My husband told me that I couldn't possibly feel a draught as the whole point of double glazing was to stop draughts.Eventually he got fed up with my constant moaning and decided to investigate.Being much taller than me, he was able to spot the problem.
If you look at the top of the window you should see that the top frame is not flush.There is a box like projection (I did warn you I was not technically minded) It is appears that this is for ventilation, and you can open and shut it as required. The fitters failed to tell us this and had left all the ventilators in the open position.Once we had shut them all, we had a lovely, cosy house and no more draughts.
