White gloss paint that dries to a shiny hard coat after one coat. The stuff I'm using is taking 16 hours to dry...... there've been shorter marriages! Is there a paint out there that will dry a lot quicker than that, but will have the equally enduring finish as the send-children-to-boarding--school-while-it-dries type?

go to a proper decorator shop if you can find one, and get terebine, it's a drier, use as directed not put too much in or the paint will yellow or crack.
Gloss paints are usually oil based, thats what causes the smell and long drying time. You can now buy water based gloss which drys in a short time and the fumes are minimal.I tried it and was disappointed because the colour seemed to yellow faster and was not as durable. (Satinwood brilliant white-semi gloss).Hope this helps.
We have used HAMMERITE on our (metal) windowframes and it's grrrreat. Dries really quickly.
