Pigeon Invasion!

I live near the town & have recently noticed more pigeons than ever in our garden! Is there a way of deterring them, as they make such a mess of the fences!?

well smudge, if you ever heard of what shaun ryder did( he of the happy mondays) you could try that...apparently he chucked out a load of bread in manchester city centre but it was laced with rat poison, and he had hysterics (he was stoned allegedly) as he watched moments later dozens of birds dropping from the sky! this was depicted on the recent film '24 hour party people' BUT for a more sensible way and one so not to anger your neighbours, get yourself down to your local shooting/country sports shop and buy a big plastic eagle owl decoy, they will almostly have one...this is not a joke...place it prominent in your garden and , hey no more pigeons! yes it does work. Have fun!

Hi valleyman, I prefer the more humane way of deterring these pigeons, so mentioned to hubby about buying an Owl decoy. He says that it's a good idea, but as they are birds of prey, we may also run the risk of losing the song birds, etc., from the garden, which is why we no longer have a cat! I adore Owls & have quite a collection of the rustic ornamental kind, but I don't think any of those will be be venturing out into the garden! Back to the drawing board, but thank you anyway!
