Fridge near a radiator

would it be stupid to put a Fridge Freezer next to a radiator? I say it isnt as it is an electrical appliance which is designed to keep heat out and keep things cold but my boyfriend thinks I'm stupid.

The outside heat transfers into the fridge freezer and it will keep putting itself on to compensate. Its not designed to keep heat out,but cold in. Your not stupid as this would be the logical thing for manufacturers to do.

The fridge gets rid of heat through the heat exchanger on the back. Putting that heat exchanger near to a radiator will make the fridge have to work much harder, increasing energy consumption. If the radiator is permanently hot the fridge may fail to keep cool.

I wouldn't use the word stupid. I would perhaps say unwise.

You might be able to put some kind of insulating barrier between the radiator and the fridge. That way the air temperature around the fridge coils will not be as hot as right next to the radiator.

For reasons stated above, it's why people will put chest freezers in an unheated garage, rather than in a heated room in the house.

Heathfield's comment is true- but reflects a common error.
Do NOT keep freezer in garage. Ambient temperature is low and will invalidate insurance of freezer or contents or both, whether on home contents poliocy or on freezer policy or on freezer extended warranty. If you don't believe me, read the policy terms!

I have my fridge next to radiator with no problems. I just turn radiator off.

Thanks for your answers! we have decided to put it in the space provided for the fridge freezer which looked to small at first but upon inspection with a measuring tape most fridge freezers will indeed fit!
