My daughter is moving into a new house soon and will need to change the pvc front door barrel lock. Is this a job that I can do or will it need to be done by a qualified locksmith? Thanks.

You'll be glad to hear it's a piece of cake to change the barrel.
I'm assuming it's a Euro lock which is held in place with 1 screw, visible on the edge of the door. You need to have the key in the lock to withdraw the barrel from the door once the screw is removed.
The barrels come in different lengths depending on the thickness of the door so make sure you set the correct one.
In addition, on the inside they can either have a knob to operate the lock, preferred by the fire bridgade, or use a key slot, which is more secure.
