Suede jacket

I recently purchased an abosutely beautiful purple suede jacket, but having never had anything like it before i don't know how to treat it. Some of my friends have said i must never EVER wear it out in the rain, some have said that it's ok in light drizzle but nothing more. Is there a definitive answer out there? Alternatively, you all tell me your opinions and I'll take the most popular one.

I had a pale tan leather jacket and regularly wore it out in light rain. It still looked like new years later!

You could try spraying it with suede protector spray from shoe shops
