Carpet or skirting board first?

Should I fit the skirting board before having the new carpet laid, or the other way round?

Ethel's right, you can't put skirtings on top of carpets, the skirtings are part of the house and the carpets are accessaries(is that spelt right?)

skirting board then paint it then carpet, if you put carpet first then skirting board, the carpet will go under the skirting board and it will be a devils own job to paint it after.
