Think carefully before you decide as once it's been installed it cannot be removed. The argument was that in the future everywhere will be metred so it might as well stay put.
We've just moved to a property with a meter, which is fine in the winter months as the bills are next to nothing but we're wondering what the summer will bring worth, not to mention a heavily used washing machine. Might be less than we imagined.
You'll save money with a bills like that, unless there are a lot of children.
I changed years ago, my bills halved, and found that I have soak aways so they cannot charge for that.
we are careful though and use barrels to water the garden as far as possible, but that is better than the chemical water for plants anyway
It'll depend on what your water suppliers charge. In some areas, people who've had meters installed have ended up paying quite a bit more than the previous flate rate. Ask around your neighbours for their experiences.
WE use it for the garden as well as ourselves and our bills have halved since we had a meter. We use the dishwasher every single day and do about 3-4 loads of washing per week.
Where I live we were not given a choice the water co. metered the whole town . If you are not a large family with the washing machine and dishwasher on all the time and have showers ,it should be cheaper . We have to pay 95% based on the water reading for the waste water charge . So turning the taps off and having a 1/2 flush on the loo saves money. Also get a water butts for the garden as a sprinkler costs mega bucks to use. We found it cheaper but depends on lots of facts.
