Gas boiler in shower room

A friend has a Gas boiler in his utility room, also in the room is an electric shower cubicle which has been in the room for six years.He has the boiler serviced regularly by British Gas, this week the service engineer called and refused to service the boiler because the shower was in the room. He phoned his supervisor, isolated the boiler and put an unsafe sticker on it.
Is this a new regulation or should previous engineers have picked up on it, he said that the steam produced by the shower would have an adverse effect on the boiler which is on an external wall.

I scanned through Part J of Building Regs but couldn't immediately find anything to say that a shower producing steam was a no, no.
However if the boiler is NOT a balanced flue type and there is a mechanical extractor fan for the shower in the utility then that is a no,no. This is because the fan lowers the air pressure in the room. However these BG people are supposed to know what they are talking about (and I'm not a CORGI engineer).

When you issue a warning sticker for an appliance or installation you also have to provide a written warning notice in triplicate form. It would be interesting to know what the exact wording is he has wrote down on this warning certificate, and what classification he has listed it under ie. NTC, AS or ID ( Not to Current Standards, At Risk or Imediatley Dangerous ).
As I do not know why he has condembed the boiler just because it is in the utility room, There must have been somthing else that he was concerned about as well.

The engineers concern was that there was a shower unit in the room and would cause the boiler to give off fumes.
However they have contacted him to say they will change the boiler for free as a goodwill gesture - I suppose it's because they've been charging to service it for 12 years without noticing the shower ????
