I have a little rockery/raised bed in part of my garden, however it is a very shaded spot and doesn't get much light. Any suggestions about what plants might do well in it? I am looking for small plants and wondered if alpines would suit?

There are numerous shady area plants, but one of the most successful are the different varities of hosta's. They require little tending and generally transplant well...
Most alpines want quite a bit of sunlight but you would be ok with some of the smaller varieties of hardy geranium, smaller astilbies, primulas and gentians. Try putting your requirements in this search engine and see what it comes up with: http://www.rhs.org.uk/rhsplantselector/default .aspx
