Been having trouble with our electric, we could smell burning but could not trace it. Anyway, all our electric went off today, we called out an electrician who replaced the above for 60.00 inclusive of labour. Was that a fair price? Have since found the part on ebay - item number 170112841755 - it's on a bid, so I am unsure of its true value, presently at 2.99. I don't mind someone making a little extra, as long as it isn't way over the odds.

Main switch should cost about 12 .48 for labour ,not bad for call out and 30 mins work

Bright - So, are you saying it was way over the top? Don't know which way to read your answer.
Sounds pretty fair to me, about what I would have charged, you must remember it costs a fortune to even be registered as a sparky now

Ray - Thanks, I always want to believe the best of people. I have no idea of the cost of things, he seemed decent enough. Welcome back by the way :0)
Hello skyep, Thank you for the welcome, I would say the average hourly rate varies between 15- 22 , So if he had a call out charge, plus one hours labour, (minimum I Charge) plus switch, some companies are now charging about 60 call out. but you are right the building trade has got a bad name, but most self employed are pretty honest, or we would soon be out of business.
Sorry Sky. I would charge the same.
