what is the right mix for fence posts

i.e.:- cement, sand and gravel please ?

It's a jolly sight easier to use bags of Post Mix from any of the Builders Merchants. Does away with mixing up yourself and as there is a dab of rapid hardener in it you can leave the post to stand up on it's own after about 30 seconds.

i sell a post mix in my shop that goes off within 6 mins and thats without adding hardeners? alternativly, when we do a fencing job i do a 5 ballast to 1 cement mix.

All proprietory Post Mix in bags have rapid hardening cement - its Ordinary Portland + aluminium. A mix of 1 of Ordinary Portland to 6 of ballast is quite sufficient - 1:2:4 is far to strong and unnecessary. However, with Post Mix all you have to do is drag the bag to the hole, half fill the hole with water, tip sufficient of the bag in until you have a paste, stand there for 30 seconds, then move on to the next one. Much easier than knocking up concrete, whether by hand or mixer.
