About once per week and then a good soaking but not enough to have standing water at the base of the plant. Don't use sprinklers (overhead watering) if you can. The water on hte leaves of the plant are a primary cause of mildew. Use a soaker hose at the bottom of the plants, if possible. Don't water during the hpttest part of the day, earlier morning or later evening is best...Too much water contributes to Blossom End Rot... the tomato turns black and squishy at the bottom end and will fall from the plant...
water tomato plants about once a week and when the truss have appeared add tomato food to the water once a week
Once a week will not be enough during the summer months. Watering needs will depend on what you have them growing in.

If in a normal size growbag then you may have to water every day especially if it is hot and sunny. The key is not to let them dry out. Check the compost every day and make sure it is not dry.

If in the soil then once a week may be ok but again not if it is very hot and dry.
