hi
we've got a man hole under our front garden. we've only just bought the house and were intending to replace the large borders with turf.
My husband thinks that they cannot be covered up but my dad thinks they can as long as you know exactly where they are.
Any ideas? Thanks.

I doubt very much if they can be legally covered by turf!! Could you not just place a slab over the cover and stand a large container on it or make some sort of feature of it!!
You can cover it over with soil or turf so long as you know where it is. One day you might have to uncover it again. Unless you have at least 100mm of soil over it, I doubt that turf will grow properly anyway - no drainage in the winter, no moisture-retention in the summer.

That'a a good point actually; we'd probably end up with a patch of yellow grass! Perhaps we'll just stick a big potted plant over it. Thanks!
