Wasps Nest

Hi I have a wasp's nest in the eaves of my house. I have seen them coming and going into a small hole. My question is, would the nest always be there? or do the wasps move on from season to season. Thanks

I believe that they only use their nests for one season but from now until the end of the summer they will be adding to it so could become enormous!

I had one last year and was quite frightened. However, I bribed someone to go into the loft and there was no sign of anything..... not one wasp. I was still not happy and removed all christmas decoration boxes so I don't have to venture there again! I did do some research and Robinia is quite right. Apparantly they never return to the same nest although thay MAY set up home right next to the last one but this is rare. So far my wasp spotting activities this year have failed to see any going in the same hole this year. Phew!!!

Addendum: Last year I did phone the council to ask how much to remove the nest and it was really expensive and so I couldn't afford it. However, they actually advised me to leave it where it was if it wasn't actually in the house.

sorry they WILL return to a nest the next year. I removed one for a council tenant that was over 6 ft long and 5 ft wide. It was on a curtain. He had it in the spare room.It went round all the schools in the area till it fell apart.
You can kill them by putting in a smoke bomb at night.
if you can remove it do. Yo can them spray the area with cuprinol 5 star wood treatment or a pesticide used for wood worm etc. This will soak in and should put them off using it again.

WHAT???? you mean the council and the internet have lied to me? I can't get up to where they are to I am going to have to just pray that they don't return. If they do..... I may move.

crikey MangoPete I hope it wasn't the floorboards they were chewing up to make it! I blame the tele & all of these grand designs :o)

I had a nest removed from the garden a few yrs ago - it was very low down & I have a little dog who was jumping up at it or I would have left it. I found the council to be expensive & it was also a long wait so I rang a few pest controllers from yellow pages & a pleasant, knowledgeable man came the same day. He said the eventual weight would have probably made it fall as it was attached to a flimsy branch & then all hell would have broken loose!
