Cheap electricity

Which company offers the cheapest electricity? Is it easy to switch? I'm with Powergen they seem very exspensive.

I'm with Powergen and they are the cheapest in my area - it depends where you live.

The problem is that as soon as one Utility offers 'a deal' the others join in. Invariably there appear to be only short term gains.
Yes one can save money but the direct debit/administration work involved doesn't seem worthwhile to me.
There are several comparison sites( as Ethel has stated )but one has to ask oneself if it is worth al the hassle.

We switched from British Gas to Powergen a couple of years ago, because theys said, in the event of a power cut, (we have a handicapped daughter), the would bring a portable generator round.

We had a power cut just a month ago, and they kept their promise, so I don't mind if they are a bit more expensive, for us, its worth it.

All I can say is, we were in Sainsburys a couple of weeks ago and a "gasman" came up to me to try to get me to change gas/electric companys. He asked me who we were with and I said "Southern Electric". He said well in that case I won't try to change you as they are already one of the cheapest going! So off I went a happy bunny!!

It depends on a few things! Where you're located, how you pay, your usage (mainly) and scarily, the previous 'tenants'. When we were querying our electricity bills when we first moved in, they mentioned to us we could be on a rate that 'makes up' for the previous tenant not ever paying their bills - we were livid!! Plus, there's no such thing as an 'average' rate (which is what you are charged per 'kWh'), so you probably won't be paying the same rate as your neighbour with the same supplier, for example (its on your bill).

Try the utility switching search engines, as it will vary. There shouldn't be any hassle with the reputable companies as they'll do it all for you. Don't forget they'll earn a commission from the supplier so they bloomin well should do!!

For the record though, we're on Powergen!!
