Electric Oven problem

My built in oven has started intermittently tripping the RCD, it has been installed for many years so not an installation problem. It is a fan assisted oven and I am never looking at it when it goes, so can't tell if it is only when the temperature light comes on or not. Does anyone know what part might be at fault from the description given?

Hi Jules, it sounds as if the oven element has a hair line crack, when the temperature rises the crack expands and the rcd senses this as a fault, get the oven checked, I am pretty sure this is going to be the problem.
I've had this problem before - as Ray says, it is a faulty element - not that hard to replace if spares are available.

thank you both, I have just checked online and the necessary spare part is available, so will order it tomorrow. Mr Jules says that, now you mention it, he can remember replacing this part before, but quite a few years ago, so cheaper to buy this than buy an new oven and as he has replaced it before, it shouldn't cause any problems. Thanks again

problem sorted, I ordered the part on Friday morning and even though there was a postal strike, I received the part this morning and it was fitted this afternoon, cooker cleaned and ready for action and when I cooked in it tonight, it was fine! Many thanks to you both.
