Best way to clean limescale out kettles

What's the best way to get rid of limescale from the inside of kettles?

From a local hardware shop I bought a product, which was less than �1 and you keep it at the bottom of the kettle and it keeps limescale at bay. This product works for me. It's like a small cylinder wire looking product:

You used to be able to buy citric acid, which did the job. However, the woman at Boots said they were no longer allowed to sell it as heroin users used in their fixes (I can't imagine wanting to inject citric acid, but hey).

I now use spirit vinegar. Neat, until it looks like all the limescale has gone when I shake. Then rinse like mad.

I still buy citric acid to clean my kettle. I get mine in Wilkinsons it is with the wine and beer making stuff. Although admittedly I haven't bought any for a few months as I got rid of my glass kettle for a chrome one and so don't need to do it quite as often

I use Oust kettle descaler.

But I have cut down the amount of limescale to nearly nothing simply by emptying the kettle as soon as I've finished with it, and never reboiling the water.

I've found that the sachets of Baby bottle steriliser cleaner from Boots chemists work a treat - boil 200 mls of water add a sachet and leave for ha;f an hour and hey presto - one spotless kettle.

i put a tablespoon of lemon juice in and boil it up with enough water to cover the scale i do it about every couple of weeks

If you use a water filter you will find that that cuts down limescale
