Building Emergency Accommodation? Need info Please?
2 Answers
Hi
I am posting, because there are plans to build emergency accommodation (flats) at the end of my road. I am interested to know, if anyone can help, about- who qualifies for the accommodation. I.e.anyone work in this kind of area and post a quick list for me.i.e. ex-offenders...etc. I have tried looking online but can't find anything as coherent or simplistic as a list of who can live in this type of housing.
Also, anyone had accomodation like this built in there neighbourhood and have they had any problems or anything since?
I don't mean to sound negative but this accommodation is going to back on to the local park where the area's children play and I am real concerned who will be living in these premises. Please get back to me a.s.a.p with any information or links they may have? Thanks

Examples can be careleavers, victims of domestic violence, those leaving prison, those whose homes are no longer habitable, asylum seekers etc, new tenants i.e young families (young mums leaving home with babies) Those leaving psychiatric care.
In fact anyone who is homeless.
My sister lives near a young person's emergency hostel and it's hell. The police no longer attend, as they were there all the time. (not being alarmist, just saying how it is)
My experience locally is that if it is young people in it, it tends to attract lots of other young people. However, I've professionally worked with people in emergency accommodation, who are very nice and have no difficulties other than they have nowhere to live.
Hope this helps

Hi there, I too live near a (fairly small) YPs hostel. No problem though, not a lot of hassle for me. Well, no more than usual round this area!
As has been said, emergency accom. covers a variety of bases-if it is a particular type of care that a person needs, that will normally be defined specifically. Our local homeless support unit has a day centre, emergency accom. and move-on accom. The unit sees a wide variety of people, from single parents with children to much older people, male and female.
I don't think you need to worry unduly.
