Do I live here legally?

Hi there

I was wondering if you could help me.

Recently I have moved into a room in a house that is full of other tenants (the landlord doesn't live there).

However, only after I had moved in, I began to smell a rat. Nobody asked me for my details (copy of my pass); the guy who seemed to "know" the landlord has just collected the deposit from me (I do not even have a proof of giving it to him).
I know that all landlords have to pass my details to the local council, which cannot be the case in this case!

Do I live legally at this address?Or is the landlord cheating the local council?

It could well be that the other tenants are sub-letting to you without the landlord even knowing?
