who gets the good side of a boundary fence between two neighbours, the owner of the boundary or the neighbour next door?

Whoever puts the fence on his or her property chooses, When a fence is put up it should not be on the boundary but to the side of the boundary of whoever is putting the fence up, so on your own land not in between, you then choose what side of the fence you want, if your neighbour is not happy, he can erect his own fence on his side of the boundary, he can then choose what side of the fence he wants to look at!!

How can you 'own' a boundary? It's an imaginary line separating land.Remember a fence does not a boundary make.
