Flowers on a journey
2 Answers
I'm buying some flowers for my girlfriend as part of a present next week, but will be taking a train to visit her and it's gonna be about a 4.5 hr trip... obviously they won't be in water on this trip.... is this really bad, is it gonna hurt them before I get there or will they be ok? If it makes any difference its roses... and is there anything I can do to help the flowers out on the journey?
Thanks

1 cut half inch off the bottom of the stems
'2 stand the rose stems in 2 inches of boiling water for 30 seconds
3 stand the roses in cold water
you could ask your florist to do a hand tie bunch which would hold water, but in my experience water + train accident waiting to happen. Just do what I've said.
and remove any leaves before putting into water

you will need
1 plastic bag with no wholes (sandwich bag)
bundle of cotton wool dampened with water quite wet
1 elasctic band.
Wet the cotton wool wrap it around the bottom of the stems place plastic bag around it secure with elastic band.
Chuck it all away just before you get to your destination.
I hate to say it but Roses are probably the worst for being out of water.
