Tonight i heard a noise coming from outside, So i went to go and investigate, upon approaching the front door, the handle was facing down when usually its horizontal. It looked like an attempted break in to me, so i tried to go outside to catch them at it. No success, any way, to cut a long story short, phoned police and all that. and unscrewed the door to get to the middle bar that operates the door, according to the policeman, he said that the bar was too short, he said that i can "temporarily" fix it. But i need a new "bar". The bar is 85mm long,
agent smith's right any diy store should have them, there called spindle's, you said your front door, that should have a split spindle on it so you need a key to get in even if the door is unlocked. just like a yale door, there a lot safer but some peaple do shut there self's out
Most sashlocks in the UK use an 8mm spindle on a wooden door but lots of PVCu doors use 7mm instead. Take it with you or measure it, also check how far the spindle goes into each handle. Cheap foreign brass sets are not always the same either side.
I carry extra extra long ones and just cut them down.
