I have recently had problem with my toilet cistern. Long and short off it is someone broke it, and it is unrepairable. It is a Trent Ware cistern and is approx 20 years old (I am presuming so anyway, going by when the house was built, although I have only lived there for 3 years). Its colour matches the rest of the bathroom suite and is a willow green or light mint green colour. I would like to try and keep the new one I buy, the same colour, but I am having problems locating one for less than 170 +vat from a plumbers merchants in Romford. If anyone has any ideas/suggestions or merchants they know off, that stocks old or unusually coloured cisterns. I would appreciate the tip. Many thanx. Paul.

Not sure if this would work, but why not take a broken bit of the old cistern to a paint merchants and see if they can make you a paint to match, that would be suitable for painting a new white cistern. I don't know if such a paint exists, but they can certainly match any colour you want.
Don't you have household insurance for this? Most policies will pay out for a broken cistern then the cost wouldn't be a problem.

Thanx for your help and advice. Realy appreciated. Paul.
You might wish to consider purchasing a white cistern and having a synthetic porcelain finish applied. See www.colourbond.co.uk. We have used them over many years, and the finish is absolutely excellent both for holding its colour and long life.

Thanx Maude, stunning advice. I never even knew companies did this.
Dont have an answer for you, but find I am in the same boat that I have a chocolate brown toilet cistern that has developed a crack and appears to be unrepairable - 1st attempt failed - and now would like help to find a company that can supply me with a replacement toilet cistern - have you resolved your problem and can you pass on any info to me.

I have got a new cistern now, but I had it changed by a firm through my home insurance accident policy. From what I can remember the best plumbers merchant with the largest stock of colours for toilets and cisterns(including very old non-stock cisterns) was a company in Romford, called H.James & Sons LTD, 736 Romford Rd, London, E12 6BT..... 020 8477 1000..... Heres their web link: http://www.hmjames.co.uk/ ..... They were very helpful on the phone when I called them, although they were quite expensive, for the cistern I needed would have cost over 200, so if your accident insured, that might be worth some thought. Either way good luck, and if you have any more questions add them to this question and I'll try to help you if I can.....

Thanx.

Paul.

P.S. - Sorry forgot to mention the H.M James website has a colour link so you can match your existing system colour to the exact name they will recognise when you call them. Good Luck!!!
