which type of juniper bush

I want to grow a juniper bush for the berries for cooking. The garden centre has about 10 varieties, does anyone know which variety produces the berries?

Here in the western U.S., i'ts the juniperus communis (cupressaceae) shrub... fancy way of saying Common Juniper...

Juniperus communis as above - grows about 2m shrub/hedge height.

Juniperus communis depressa is a low growing ground spreading version of the same variety.

Yes, go for the common juniper to produce berries but bear in mind you need both male and female plants for fertilisation and that a berry will take three years to ripen.
They can be grown on acidic or chalky soils.

Thanks for your answers I'll have another look tomorrow. So how do I know if I have male and female or do I just hope, or just get two? Is it like holly where different varieties are male and female?
