Dear Majove...I've just bought my dad a new gas cooker and with all the new rules and regulations you (literally) cannot do anything yourself anymore... for one thing the oven doesn't come with a hose at the back and you can't buy one so you have to get a gas fitter to bring it... also they now have to be chained (literally) to the wall -more expense ... it worked out to over 100 more getting these things done before my dad could use it.. most of the gas/electricity oven supplies have a list of extra charges now..for -. delivery...taking old one away... fitting... etc etc...Someone in the Govt must lie awake at night thinking up all these new rules and regulations...
the rules and regulations can be a pain sometimes but they are there to stop people who don't know what they are doing from killing themselves or others.
i fit gas and electric ovens and i am happy to disconnect the old appliance before connecting the new one but i price the job accordingly i.e. the more work i do the longer it takes so the more the job costs.
i do not take away the old appliance for disposal as i do not have the room in my van but if you leave the old appliance out the front of your house it will usually dissappear very quickly as theres a lot of scrap metal dealers about these days. otherwise the council will collect it for a small fee.
