I have a 6 year old wisteria which refuses to flower. I have tried light pruning and heavy pruning. Any ideas?

If you have rich fertile soil your plant could be growing too quickly & putting all it's energy into leaves & not flowers.Pruning is also a pretty complicated business - I'd love a wisteria but I don't do ladders! Will now attempt to make you a link... click
Oh well done me, it works!!

Thanks very much Noddy. I will give this a try.
We have two in our garden, one a bog standard one, only cost a coule of quid. This has flowered since it was about 3 years old. The other was "Black Dragon" supposed to have scent & dark flowers, cost me in excess of 30! It flowered once after 10+ years, very poor only a couple of racemes, very pale, spindly & no scent. Pruning is definately the way to get them going. I don't know if it's an old wives tale, but they are said to "like their roots in the shade & shoots in the sun." Hope you succeed

Thanks, Paulz. This could be a good tip because both shoots and roots are in the sun. I'll try to shade the roots and then prune severely in the autumn.
Talking to my green-fingered friend she recommends testing the PH of the soil that the wisteria is in (obviously!!). You need to lower the PH below 7. This can be done by buying a high acidic fertilizer (the same you would use for azaleas etc.) Hope this helps.
Try cat pee.
How do you get a cat to pee where you want it to?
Here's a site that should be helpful. http://www.rippingale.com/~meacham/wisfaq.html Newt
