As you know, a lot of us have been involved in alterations to domestic circuits for years........until now :o( I can answer and understand the sample questions ok - but why the time constraint? Any tips eg finding my way around the 16th edition a little quicker.

Get some blank cards, and write on them ie: Part 2 Definitions, Part 4 protection for safety, fuse ratings etc,
part 5 Selection & erection of equipment , clip them in the top of the regs, do it with different colour bits of card for ease of viewing, put them into top of regs book with paper clip and it will be so much quicker tha trying to flick through book, it is a multi choice exam, take your time, and double check every answer, hope this helps you a bit, please come back if I haven't made myself clear, i find it hard to explain in writing, but hope you get my drift, good luck with it matey, Ray

Hi Builder, No way would I try and put you off, life is hard enough ain't it, and if we can help each other great, The daft thing is in most situations you won't have to look things up, it will all be in your head, good luck with it, but I think the most important thing with the exam is to use all the time you have, you will be ok, some of the answers are so obvious you won't even have to consult the regs, take care and again, good luck, Ray
hi there
im not a full time spark but i sat the exam on last night at my college in brum.all 12 who sat the exam passed and its not hard as long as you revise, those who struggled admitted they had not revised enough
the year group above us questioned our timing with the 17th edition on the way cos we have now one shot at the 2391 inspect/test exam.if we sit on the first week of jans course instead of the easter course then we sit our exam near easter and because the written exam is marked in the traditional way we wont get our results before the easter course starts and then we are looking at the new 17th edition course if we fail.
anyway back to your question ,our lecturers told us anyone taking in a regs book or osg with post it notes all over it would not be allowed to use that book. up untill then all of us had followed the pattern of post it notes and ended up removing them

part 2 if your books have a lot of notes in them there would be a similar problem but no one had their books inspected.
so really you have to commit to the revision and try to learn your way through the chapters, not so you learn it by heart but so you get a feel for the areas to head for rather than going straight to the index which can be time consuming.
the best help we got was to have copies of past papers given to us to get you in the right frame of mind:
3 wks before the exam one paper to take home and try out
next week mark it and then receive two more papers to work on
last week before the exam mark the two papers and sit a mock exam on a fourth paper which we had a results sheet stright away and then took all four papers home, with answers to practise on .i dont know if your tutors do the same but this system was a godsend
sorry for the long answer but i hope it helps. i wish there were some way of sharing the papers with you as they were invaluble
good luck

Terrence7556 - I can't thank you enough for taking the trouble to reply. What you and Ray have told me is just what I was hoping to hear. I'm reading through the Regs now - in fact, reading them over and over is going to be my Christmas reading for this year - (sad isn't it?)........ :o)
I wish you the very best of luck - but don't forget to have a great Christmas.
