dying silk

i just bought a dress from ebay but the colour's not right. I want to dye it but it's 100% silk and says dry clean only. is there a way of dying it without damaging the material?

If the garment is not particularly valuable - then by all means try dyeing it. Don't expect it to look or feel like commercially dyed fabric at the end of the process. Also, the resultant colour may be uneven.

It probably won't fall to pieces but my guess is that you'll like it less after dyeing.
